The quotes states ‘never get so busy making a living, that you forget to make a life’.
It seems that the month of January is a month to take time to access what we want the year ahead to look like. Stress has been described by the World Health Organisation as ‘the health epidemic of the 21st century’, therefore wellness is possibly the most precious gift we can give ourselves over the next 12 months.
Here are some things to think about this month:
Food Trends & Veganuary
One of the major health trends that takes place this month is Veganuary, it promotes veganism throughout the month of January. It aims to reduce the consumption of animals to ultimately help our planet, while encouraging a plant-based diet and lifestyle.
Physical Health & Gym Membership
Its well known that Google searches for gyms peak in January and membership purchases soar during the month. It’s also been revealed that UK gym membership has increased by 44%, possibly due to more affordable and accessible gym packages.
Mental Health & Mindfulness
Mindfulness is an ancient Buddhist practice that’s become a relevant practice for 21st century life today. The simple act of paying more attention to the present moment you’re in and to the world around you, allows you to improve your mental wellbeing. Professor Mark Williams, former director of the Oxford Mindfulness Centre, stated that “It’s easy to stop noticing the world around us. It’s also easy to lose touch with the way our bodies are feeling and to end up living ‘in our heads’ – caught up in our thoughts without stopping to notice how those thoughts are driving our emotions and behaviour.” (www.NHS.uk)
Taking time to remind yourself to notice your thoughts and feelings in the moment, is the first step to mindfulness. You can find out more about mindfulness, healthy eating and being active at our Feel Good Festival this May. It allows you time to relax and focus on your wellbeing.
